The Story So Far: The Job Interview

  • Applicants received a text inviting them to apply for a role at the Starlight Agency

“You have been formally invited to apply for a role at The Starlight Agency.

Apply now at www.thestarlightagency.co.uk.

Time is running out. Trust no one. “

  • On opening www.thestarlightagency.co.uk, applicants were presented with a password screen that read; “Your password is expired.” It also had instructions to visit a password webpage if the applicants password was expired. There they were greeted with the image below.
  • Applicants worked out that the humans and the passport pictured had expired and that the password they were looking for was “expired”.
  • The applicants gained access to the main application webpage and were presented with:

  • The applicants noticed that the out of place Capital letters through the questionnaire spelt “GO TO QUEST”
  • The applicants also noticed that the image that contained the words “The Answer” was named go-to-forward-slash-quest.png when they downloaded it. They also spotted various messages hidden in that image; 42, 1 Stanley Road, everyonewearsamask
  • The applicants headed to www.thestarlightagency.co.uk/quest and were presented with another password.
  • The applicants figured out that MC stood for Maureen Cater, the holder of the expired passport and used her DOB as the six digit password. Death WIsh was a novel by Maureen Carter, something the applicants stumbled across earlier when trying to solve the Expired password puzzle.
  • Applicants deduced that the keyphrase was “RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU” from the above images.
  • Each of the five successful applicants received a text from The Agency:
  • From the texts the applicants deduced that they had to visit a physical location (SoccerWorld) and look for clues relating to the phrases they had been given. They retrieved three envelopes.
  • The applicants worked out that the puzzle in the first envelope was a warning to RUN
  • The applicants also broke the cypher from the second enevolpe, decoding the following message: email Harry Fishman at [email protected] for further instructions.
  • The QR code took the applicants to https://thestarlightagency.co.uk/phasetwo/ where they were greeted with yet another protected area.
  • Having emailed Hrry Fishman they received the following reply:
  • The applicants worked out that the three phrases in the email body read as red herring when solved.
  • They concentrated on the goldfish picture and found the letters TITX WE SEANME ER TFLO and discover that was an anagram of TEXT ME ANSWER TO LIFE. They also found that the photo file was a telephone number for Harry Fishman. On texting Harry with the password “42” the applicants received these text messages and agreed to be available on Friday after 5pm.

SIDE NOTES (Information that has been share with the WHOLE GROUP ONLY:

  • Sophie came home to find a small bottle of mouthwash at her front door with a note saying “Keep this on you, you will know when to use it”
  • Zuzanna received a text message from a withheld number: “We have been watching you. The Starlight Agency shows vulnerability for the first time. More than “your” life depends on you successfully completing the application prossess and being accepted into The Starlight Agency. We will be in touch. BC” with photographs of her loved ones attached.
  • The applicants suspect the Black Court may have been the BC in question.
  • Once questioned about typos in his email, Harry Fishman replied with the following: “Someone has spilled what smells like lamb kebab on my keyboard, making the keys a tad sticky”
